About Me

Thank you for previewing my portfolio.  This website will demonstrate the learning concepts achieved during my journey to obtaining my Master of Arts in Teaching and Learning with Technology with Ashford university.  Preceding this degree was my Bachelors of Arts in Psychology also from Ashford University.

On this Journey I have mastered the following learning outcomes:

  1. Demonstrate knowledge and skills related to learning using technology;
  2. Demonstrate knowledge and skills in current and emerging instructional technologies;
  3. Design learning opportunities that apply technology-enhanced instructional strategies to support the needs of all learners;
  4. Apply research to support learning in a technology-enhanced environment;
  5. Exemplify ethical practices of technology usage;
  6. Evaluate technology resources to facilitate effective assessment and evaluation;
  7. Utilize technology to collect and analyze data, interpret results, and communicate findings; and
  8. Demonstrate the ability to make informed decisions regarding the use of technology in support of learning and leadership

Aspirations

I look forward to utilizing the skills and explore the technology in a real world environment I have learned throughout my degree.  Technology is truly the future of education.  Having the most up-to-date skills is essential in obtaining a rewarding position to help shape our children for the future.

The mediocre teacher tells. The good teacher explains. The superior teacher demonstrates. The great teacher inspires.

Demonstrate knowledge and skills related to learning using technology

Schools are serving a more ethnically, linguistically, and culturally diverse student body than ever before. It is a challenge when we have such a diverse classroom when many do not speak English and it has been a second language in their households.  It breaks down the understanding ability of the student body.

From our universities and research institutions, studies about education, cognitive psychology, and neurology have offered new insights on how humans learn. Constructivism, a theory of learning, provides a valuable framework for using computers and other technology in productive, interesting ways. Technology can enrich students' use of a variety of resources and help them gain understanding about their world. Assisted by teachers and peers in their growth as individual learners, students can use technology to enhance their work and increase their connections with resources outside school walls. Demonstrate the ability to make informed decisions regarding the use of technology in support of learning and leadership

Successful technology enhanced instruction often takes advantage of models, simulations, or visualizations to introduce new ideas. (Kali, Y. & Linn, M.C.) Implementing technology into the classroom requires pre-planning and forethought.  It is vital students are introduced to technology and can interact appropriately.   Technology can enhance a lesson in which traditional teaching would put the instructor at the front of the class in front of a white board writing and having students taking notes.  This lecture-type teaching is boring and will lose students interest in concepts being presented. Having students break up into groups and actively research a concept together as a team and have the team present dialogue or descriptions of what the topic at hand is after a period of time is a wonderful hands on approach.  Group work can be an effective method to motivate students, encourage active learning, and develop key critical-thinking, communication, and decision-making skills. (CTE Teachign Tips, 2012) The activity and learning is done by the students and the retention level will increase.  They can utilize maps, graphics, YouTube presentations, images and web pages with typewritten information raising the interest level of the entire student body versus a lecturing instructor forcing student interaction.
